For Attribution: An Injured War Photographer’s Words to Boston Bombing Victims

There are two kinds of reporters in television news.  The ones who make themselves the boring, cookie-cutter center of every story.  And the ones who know how to step aside and use quotes, sound, images–plus a few choice words of their own–to craft a compelling narrative, one that puts you on the scene, makes you see, hear, maybe even taste or feel, what’s happening.

Once in a while, though, the journalist does become the story–as in the case of  Associated Press news photographer Emilio Morenatti, who lost a leg in Afghanistan. His recounting of that ordeal, and its implications for those injured in the Boston bombing two weeks ago, made us feel what it’s like to be a victim…and a survivor.
